God of the ordinary.
1 Corinthians 10:13
He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
Hearing testimonies about how God did something spectacular in someone’s life can challenge us. While amazing for us. (He has actually been miraculous to me twice at least – happy to share if anyone wants to know, though neither of them would make National news headlines.)
Consider Abraham. God was clearly with Abraham and did many great things for and through him. If he did the same for us we would be more inspired to serve God wouldn’t we? Read Genesis 12:1-4 (Abraham was 75 years old) then Genesis 15: 1-6 and Genesis 16: 15-16 (Abraham now 86 years old) and Genesis 17: 1-12 (Abraham now 99 years old). Yes, God was with Abraham but most of the time was ‘ordinary’.
God’s work is usually done behind the scenes in the ordinary things of life. When you go to sleep at night, just think back through your day to see where and how God has actually been working with/for you. You may be surprised! Pause and thank God for the amazing things He does for us in our ‘ordinary’ lives Instead of longing for Him to do something special for you, thank Him – He already has.
Lord, help me to be constantly aware that your power and presence are with me, even in the ordinary times in my life. Thank you for your amazing work on my behalf that I may know nothing about.
