But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.
1 Peter 2:9-11 NIV
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27 NIV
Have you heard the story about the eagle egg that was knocked out of its nest and came to rest in the middle of a turkey farm. The newborn soon realised he was a funny looking turkey but he picked the grain and he bobbed his head with the rest of them, he even managed to pitiful sounding gobble from time to time. Yet each time the flock of eagles flew overhead he looked at them longingly and wished that he could be like them. One day an eagle swoops down and lands next to the young bird and says “what in the world are you doing here?”. “This is where I was born” the youngster replied, “this is my home.” The great bald eagle snapped back, “it may be where you were born but your home is in the sky. Don’t you know who you are? Spread out those wings and fly.” As he flew away the turkeys asked, “where are you going?” He replied, “I’m going to be who I was created to be.”
Are you feeling like you don’t fit in, longing for something more? Let us rise up and soar as we live out our calling as a holy priesthood. Let us together bring light to the darkness as we reveal our true nature as God’s children.
Father, I choose to stop looking at the world around me as though it were the place I belong. I choose to look forward to living with you in heaven. Help me to use my time on earth to enjoy and be thankful for all it’s great gifts and to be an ambassador for your coming Kingdom. I choose to follow your Holy Spirit so that my character more truly reflects your likeness. Amen
