Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains. Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should. Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.
This WhatsApp group has given us great opportunities to show care for one another during the lockdown months. It’s also been a place for encouragement as we have prayed for friends and contacts who don’t know the Lord, and seen Him answer and bless them.
Paul teaches that as we live alongside those who don’t yet believe, we should pray:
- with “an alert mind and a thankful heart”, sensitive to see what God is doing, and quick to give Him thanks;
- for more opportunities and clarity in proclaiming the message of Jesus;
- for the grace to live and speak wisely, with words “seasoned with salt”, so that our conversation is attractive to others.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t find this easy at all, even with some of those who are dearest to me. Which makes it evident why Paul reminds us to pray constantly for God to grow us in these ways.
Pray: Lord, please lay on my heart today the people that you long to reach among my friends, colleagues, neighbours, and acquaintances. Help me also to persevere in bringing my unbelieving loved ones before you. Give me your grace so that my words and actions each day will be wise and attractive, drawing others to the beauty and love of Jesus.
