Northway Church has a leadership team of six: Melissa Walton, Fiona Floate and Heather Elbourn have responsibility for the morning service. Peter and Lynette Teagle and Chris Band have responsibility for the evening service.
I started following Jesus when I was 16 – at a meeting that I didn’t want to go to! My family have been going to Northway Church for as long as I can remember and apart from 6 months – 1 year that I spent training with a group of churches in Reading I have been involved in the church’s activities. I have a degree in Youth and Community Work with Applied Theology and for several years worked as a full-time Youth Worker. I currently run my own Driving School. My hobbies include cross-stitching, reading and ballroom dancing.
After attending a congregational chapel from the age of 7, I became a Christian at 16 following a friend’s baptism. I did a music degree at Aberystwyth followed by a secretarial course and worked in publishing for 8 years before moving to Regent’s Park College, Oxford as PA to the Principal, a vocational job I’ve enjoyed for over 30 years. Music continues to play an important part in my life, playing piano at church and singing in a local choir. I also enjoy gardening, growing most of my own vegetables, and walking in the Lake District.
I was born and brought up in Leicestershire. My early life was very much influenced by stories of my missionary ancestors.I invited Jesus into my life at the age of about eight as a result of reading a Patricia St John book. I came to Oxford to nurse in 1961 where I met Cliff at Headington Baptist Church. We married and I have lived in Oxford ever since. Cliff died in 2016 after 20 years with dementia.
Growing up in Singapore, I knew about God but didn’t think He could ever accept me as I knew that I wasn’t perfect. When I was 11, the transformation in my sister when she became a Christian convinced me that Jesus died on the cross for me so that I could accept His love and forgiveness. I’m married to Peter, we have 3 young adult children and have lived in the UK for 20 years (13 in Oxford). I enjoy reading, cooking, long walks and learning about other cultures.
I became a Christian at the tender age of 11 following the death of my godly Grandmother who prayed for our whole family with great persistence. I am married to Breeze and have two daughters, Petra & Tia. My hobbies include reading, classical music, DIY, human biology and long walks with the dog. I have studied theology in three different academic institutions – nine years in total. I worked for five years with students in the UK (UCCF) and then for seven years among International Students (Friends International). I also taught New Testament studies in North India for three years. I am an ordained Baptist Minister and have been working at Headington Baptist Church since 2007 but have also been involved at Northway for a number of years, particularly helping to lead the 5pm congregation.
